HUMLIN R, N VIALS

Description

Humulin R and Humulin N are injectable insulins produced by Eli Lilly and Company, utilized in the management of diabetes mellitus to regulate blood glucose levels.

Humulin R (Regular Insulin):

• Type: Short-acting insulin.

• Composition: A clear, colorless solution containing human insulin synthesized through recombinant DNA technology, structurally identical to natural human insulin.

• Onset and Duration: Begins to lower blood glucose within 30 minutes of subcutaneous injection, with effects lasting approximately 6 to 8 hours.

• Administration: Administered subcutaneously, typically 30 minutes before meals.

Humulin N (NPH Insulin):

• Type: Intermediate-acting insulin.

• Composition: A sterile suspension of isophane insulin human, providing a prolonged duration of action.

• Onset and Duration: Begins to lower blood glucose about 1 to 2 hours after subcutaneous injection, with effects lasting up to 18 hours.

• Administration: Administered subcutaneously, often once or twice daily, depending on individual requirements.

Storage and Handling:

• Unopened Vials: Store in a refrigerator between 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C). Do not freeze.

• Opened Vials: May be stored at room temperature up to 86°F (30°C) and should be used within 31 days.

Important Considerations:

• Hypoglycemia Risk: Monitor blood glucose regularly to avoid hypoglycemia.

• Injection Sites: Rotate injection sites within the same region to reduce the risk of lipodystrophy.

• Mixing Insulins: When mixing Humulin R with Humulin N, draw Humulin R into the syringe first to prevent contamination.
